Anne Willan traces the evolution of cookbooks from the 15th century onward, looking at chefs’ practices, recipe writing, and all manner of food culture. I spent several days poring over Willan and Cherniavsky’s extensive library, choosing examples to show in this book. It was heaven to hunt through hundreds of rare and beautiful volumes.
